Understanding PagerDuty's Pricing Model

Per-User Pricing

PagerDuty charges per active user, not per seat type. Every engineer, manager, or stakeholder who logs in counts. Free plan is capped at 5 users. Professional and Business are unlimited users at fixed per-seat rates. Plan carefully: a 50-person eng team with 30 managers as stakeholders is 80 billable users on Professional.

Annual vs Monthly Billing

Annual billing is approximately 20% cheaper than monthly. For a 50-user Professional team: annual billing costs $12,600/year; monthly billing costs around $15,120/year. The $2,520 annual saving is meaningful. Unless you expect significant team size changes within the year, annual billing is almost always the right choice.

Add-on Structure

PagerDuty sells several features as add-ons to lower tiers. AIOps (event intelligence) can be purchased as an add-on to Professional rather than upgrading to Business — but the per-user add-on cost often makes Business the more economical choice. Always compare the all-in cost before selecting a tier.

Stakeholder Licenses

Business plan includes stakeholder licenses for read-only status visibility. On Professional, you pay per-stakeholder add-on fees. If your org has 20+ executives or managers who need to view incident dashboards, account for stakeholder seats in your cost calculation — they add up quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate PagerDuty costs?

PagerDuty costs = number of users × plan price per user per month. Professional: users × $21. Business: users × $41. Annual billing saves approximately 20% vs monthly. Add-ons (AIOps, analytics, stakeholder licenses) add $5–$15/user/month. Our calculator handles all of this automatically.

What is PagerDuty's cost for 50 users?

For 50 users: Professional costs $1,050/month ($12,600/year). Business costs $2,050/month ($24,600/year). On monthly billing, add approximately 20% to each. OpsGenie at $11/user would cost $550/month for the same team size.

Does PagerDuty offer volume discounts?

PagerDuty's Professional and Business plans are fixed list prices with no standard volume discount structure. Volume discounts are available on the Enterprise (Digital Operations) tier, which is custom-priced. Teams of 100+ users can sometimes negotiate modest discounts on Professional/Business by requesting an enterprise review.

How much cheaper is OpsGenie than PagerDuty?

OpsGenie costs $11/user/month vs PagerDuty Professional at $21/user/month — that's 48% cheaper. For a 50-user team, OpsGenie saves $6,000/year. For 100 users, $12,000/year. The savings compound significantly at larger team sizes.
